no, you were just supposed to change the PCV vent filter. nobody ever did, though. They'd get plugged and the increase in crankcase pressure would push oil past the valve cover and intake manifold end gaskets.
Good article, I loved my old E46 M. Mine had the SMG, which I'll admit isn't as good as the manual, but it never gave me an issue. I think the SMG pump failure is blown very far out of proportion- it's not nearly as common as you'd think with proper maintenance.
Just a heads-up, those are APEX ARC-8 wheels on the M3, not BMW CSL wheels.

That you don't need snow tires if you have all-season tires on your car. If you live in an area that gets significant snow you need snow tires. Possible exception might be for AWD vehicles, but they'd benefit from snows too if not as much.
