That thing looks like it was designed by a blind psychotic fan of The Hulk.

Charlie Jane, are you and I the only ones who liked Man of Steel? My son, to whom I introduced comics and SF/F, called it a sacrilege. I think it was, like the first of the new Star Treks, a re-boot of the franchise. The same goes for the Christopher Nolan's Batman series. Nolan's series was neither pure traditional

I have come to loathe the term "controversy" when applied by the vanishingly small band of very noisy people who refuse to acknowledge both reason and science.

As with most folks here, I am very very worried about what a mess SyFy could make of one of my favorite recent series.

One thing that has amazed me is that no one - at least in the Mainstream Press - has talked about how the anti-immigration movement is affecting food costs. I think the data might show that blocking immigration from Mexico and Central America has already had an effect on produce costs.

Given Tarantino's proclivities, my guess is this thing will be far more Horror that SciFi. He'll use any premise to base his beloved blood and gore stories.

Coincidentally, stunt drivers call that a Rockford. It was one of James Garner's patented moves in the Rockford Files. (We lost Garner today 20 July)

In the Navy we called it "Force Majeure". If you're in a 20 foot sailboat get out of the way of that aircraft carrier.

I miss Banks a lot. I have read every Culture novel at least twice. And, several of his non-genre novels. He was brilliant and, he could really write.

I completely agree. I love the way Butcher treats it like something every day. Unless you're Harry. He's the poor hero/shmoe who always gets it it the ear.

Is the roadster coming too? They might finally pick the correct numbers in the lottery so, I want to be ready. And, people, there is almost know measure of good taste by which this thing could not be called beautiful..

I love Bill Nye and what he does but, he forgot Mark Twain's famous warning, "Never argue with a fool. Onlookers might not be able to tell the difference."

With today's third and fourth generation reactors, this idea would become more practical. Of course, the decades old hysteria around anything "nuclear" would put aid to what otherwise is a sensible concept.

I'm still laughing so hard I can barely type. Ann Hiro, you just made my day. Thankyouthankyouthankyou.

Ah, irony; demeaning themselves?

You couldn't possibly mean Ursula Andress, could you?

Didn't SpaceX demonstrate something like this last year?

Is there no way to stop the endless dystopian, post-apocalyptic garbage currently spewing across SF in so many media? I won't even speak of the endless zombies, vampires and werewolves that seem to monopolize the attention of Gen X, Gen Y and millenials.

Given the capabilities of CGI today, I'm really surprised that no one has made a movie of Childhood's End. Or, for that matter, Rendezvous With Rama. Both are very cinematic.

I'm happy you mentioned both Orwell and LeGuin. The two books are probably the the greatest Dystopian (Orwell) and the greatest Utopian (LeGuin) of the last century. I found The Dispossessed to be the more engaging of the two. Principally because LeGuin make her protagonist confront both societies.
