Sretten’s wit is remarkable. This series and the “Binky Brothers” are the only YT series that I can boast a completed list of videos. I have learned so much by watching M539 that I believe I could rebuild a BMW 12-cylinder engine in my sleep.
“Experts now agree we need to banish the car-centric culture from the U.S. if we have any hope of staving off the worst affects of climate change and improving Americans’ mental and physical health. But there was a time, long ago, when that car payment really did mean freedom for so many.”
I-81 North, between Christiansburg, VA and Roanoke, VA. It’s a white-knuckle experience most all the time. Semi-trucks, narrow lanes and a steady downgrade (giving the trucks more kinetic energy) make it the most memorable (and loathed) travelway for me.
Agreed. I had the same impression.
Well put.
I put one in my 2006 330Ci. Great upgrade.
Zack, I’ve got a suspicion that you were not in Richmond, VA on January 20, but I was. To call the 2nd Amendment a “neo-Nazi rally” is at best, disingenuous. The rally was a very polite, non-violent demonstration attempting to communicate to authoritarian and tyrannical politicians that their proposals are unpopular…
I live 20 minutes away from the spot in Rappahannock County, Virginia that every time I pass, I think of you with a tip of the hat. Godspeed!
Warts and all...
Tom, Your assessment of the Alltrack is correct. Even in S-trim, the car is mcuh better than the standard GSW. I even installed Golf R springs on my because I really want a Gold R Variant. My APR tune should get me pretty darn close.
I am skeptical of this study for at least two reasons. First, and most obviously, the insurance industry has an incentive to justify higher rates in a particular area/region - regardless of the actual risk. Second. The “comparable” states are anything but. The lower-risk states are more rural, have lower…
I thought that was quite a brave and honest interview. I totally get the fear Dale is speaking of. Stef, we’ve both had this happen to us, and again, I applaud your coverage on the subject.
Agreed.
Chevy needs an Alpha-platform sedan. It would be a great seller and an obvious replacement for the NASCAR SS.
Stef, I came to Jalopnik today, to read about cars and found - front and center - an article encouraging hate against our next Vice President. Please tell your bosses, I am leaving immediately, today, and may not return. I am sorry if this effects you personally, as I have enjoyed your writing.
I really have no idea where to get this opinion “out there”, but this is as good as anywhere.
Once, I had a Dodge Omni (Rabbit clone) and an amorous girlfriend. In case you were unaware, space for fun (yes, sex) was limited in this car. Solution - remove trunk carpet and spread across hood, for comfort. Thank God for vacant pastures under the moonlight.
I agree with you fully, on the DSG. I happily pay my $300/yr (yeah, I drive a lot) DSG “tax”, on my Passat, to enjoy the mechanical precision this equipment demonstrates. I simply cannot fathom driving a car with a CVT.
