By adding additional distance to this lever (the total thickness of the track assembly) you are increasing the effect of any nonvertical loading.

I wonder what kind of additional torque loads these place on the hub and steering assemblies. That extra weight and the longer arm has to produce moments at the fulcrum far greater than what the engineers intended.
