Impressive, but they weren’t around in 2009 when I bought the car.

It isn’t the fuel economy, it’s the per unit production cost. They deleted the entire urea system and servicing infrastructure and replaced it with a replace-only filter and an electric heater. That’s a whole lot of money when you do the math across a worldwide fleet.

The MPG is just what the end user is most concerned

Mine already had the ECU “fix” that turned it on. I didn’t know what it was at the time, but now I do. I saw my Highway averages at 4,000 ft pulling a 1000-1400lb trailer go from 46 to 43 miles per gallon. I didn’t notice any driving difference.

They may have cheated the emissions, but they still made a damn fine

Uhh, go look at any modern diesel car and you’ll see similar numbers. Even the luxobarge BMW 535d gets 38mpg (EPA, https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/3…). The real world returns are typically higher. I managed 55mpg across the entire state of Oklahoma on a perfect day in my Jetta.

You’re right. It really gets 10mpg with a top speed of 23mph with DPF powered. Herp, derp the DPF only has a 2-3 mpg effect.

Oh, and mine is one of the ones that they “fixed” before the story went public. IT GOT 46MPG BEFORE....

I’m in the military, I think I have the patriotism thing well sorted out.

I have no need to tow a mountain. Also, the Cruz falls 500lbs short of the weight I need to tow 2 bikes.

ROFL, the towing range of thing is going to be well within the range that I would ride. I have no intention to sticking to interstates, which is the only way to deal with shitty EV range. Face it, they’re city vehicles for people who think Whole Foods is adventurous.

Name something that gives me 43mpg while towing a 1500lb trailer and I’ll consider it.

US Government, please let them implement a fix before you gut the company and run it out of the country.

Sincerely, someone who doesn’t want to have to pay for whatever modifications are necessary to remain legal.

Dude, I never debated that point. Go be an internet superhero somewhere else.

That system exists, but you can’t fight physics. That’s why the publications prescribe a higher rotate speed than is typical for STOL.

Yeah, they’re still children. Step one is warn them of the danger, step two is to remove the danger.

How many stupid things did you do despite being told not to?

These planes are downright impressive.

But, they’re not the most desirable for combat STOL (where runways are quickly built, and engines are more prone to failure). 100% asymmetric thrust with those powerful engines is enough to flip the aircraft during takeoffs below minimum control speed faster than a pilot can

A 20” BMX bike weighs ~24lbs. I hauled mine around with one arm from age 6 on up. A kid could easily heft this onto a hip or leg, just like the adult in the video.

Cool idea.

Need to be careful, it looks like a toy. I can easily see a kid b-lining towards it.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I had to replace the DPF on my 09 TDI, and it cost about $750 (luckily I have an extended warranty).

Fuck you, VW, this is just an excuse to not provide a real solution.

So, you could still arc if the air gap between your skin and the object was appropriately less than the gap between the two welding surfaces? It still seems prudent to wear some sort of glove.

I’m interested to know, myself. My understanding of welding physics is apparently weak.
