Halo/Madden/COD is “BroGamer” territory which is a dirty dirty place of gaming. It is possible he one of those... or he was just generally curious/surprised. Who knows. I’m not a fan of the “Brogamer” they are embarrassing.

As far as the line drawn... playing a game like FFT at all would probably make you a gamer, if

“You play games. So you are a gamer.”

Again, it all depends on how serious of a gamer you are. Even with your crappy driver analogy, if I drove once and never again, didn’t even have a driver license anymore (or never got one to begin with), and have no intentions of doing it anymore, and don’t even call myself a

If you didn’t find it already, you should check out gog.com. They have all the classics available, DRM free, in an nice modern package.

Ah forgive me then, is the controller advertised as a standard option for Gear? I could of missed it. Honestly the $100 for a plastic shell which is basically Cardboard turned me off to the whole thing so I stopped looking into it. Not having a compatible phone also killed it for me.

I wouldn’t consider playing a game for THREE years and going to the lengths you did as “dabbling”. I’m talking about the folks that just pick up a phone and play some Candy Crush on a break and thats their entire experience “gaming” (which is what your average cell phone user does) These are the same people that say

Gear is $100 piece of plastic that barely gives something better than Cardboard for $10-30

People who only focus on one game or subgenre and dont touch the rest of gaming as a a whole, are not “hardcore gamers” correct. Still gamers for the most part, but you shouldn’t limit your scope. Gaming has a LOT to offer

I have in a couple spots.. anything thats not just a pure time waster or mechanics simplified down to its purest form. Something that requires some sort of intelligence or skill, can entertain or tell a story, etc.

Yeah, I’m sure VR will eventually drop in price. I’m just talking about at the moment really. With all the headsets being $400-800, it could really die out before it even takes off at this rate. We’ll see. I really want it to take off. I’ve been excited about VR coming back since Oculus was a bunch of stuff cobbled

Of course there are... I’m not sure why you thought otherwise?

On the same page as you. The Graphic Adventure era was a golden era of PC gaming (along with SNES/Genesis being the golden era of console gaming :D).

“Then you’re more casual than most freemium players”

Maybe? I dont have as much time as i used to. I just can’t stand the freemium model altogether. I want to play a game now, not later. And I’m not paying them because they put an arbitrary timer on everything. If I could pay for the game (once) and just PLAY it, I

Congratulations! Enjoying a hobby, and seeking to expand it is always fun. I’d consider you a gamer if you are still actively trying to game and expand.

Thats the thing, most people who dabble on a cell phone aren’t putting a lot of time or effort into it. They aren’t doing it seriously

And you don’t have to have the latest console (this gen sucks anyways) or high end PC, but having a gaming platform at all definitely helps, especially if you play multiple types of

I haven’t played a lot of it to be honest, once it took like a week to build something I kinda gave up.

Yeah because gamers, especially on this site, seem to be made the enemy these days

I dont consider the Madden/COD/Halo “Brogamer” to be an appealing side of gaming either.

And here we go, more shaming of people enjoying their hobby because they dont fit into YOUR definition of normal.

I drive because I have to, not because I want to. Driving isn’t my hobby. I dont enjoy driving. I am not into cars or racing. I’m not a “driving enthusiast” or a fan of driving. I’m driving RELUCTANTLY. Not as a passion.

It sounds like you EXACTLY fit my definition of gamer, actually.
