Yeah I have no experience with BMWs, but the VWs of the era were notorious for broken window regulator clips. Being that they all pull from the same 3rd party OEMs, I’d imagine the BMWs were (at least at the time). VW had a TSB to replace the regulators with ones with metal clips riveted in instead of plastic ones…

They’re not far off though. I had a similar problem with my Forester’s power window - I even bought a new motor that I was going to try and install - when it turned out that applying some graphite lubricant (not WD 40) was enough to get it running normally again.

It’s entirely possible that it does just need the tracks and pivots in the regulators lubed (WD40 IS NOT A LUBRICANT!), but also equally possible that the regulators are shot because this is the era of plastic window regulator clips that crack and disintegrate and fall into the gearing.

Just looking at the location of the photos I’m guessing the owner should never have bought a used BMW in the first place, because (I own two), they require regular maintenance and service/parts aren’t cheap. Comes with the territory.
