Yes, like I said, an opinion can be popular (i.e., held by roughly half the country) and still be totally indefensible. A majority of people in this country at one time or another supported slavery, segregation, sterilization of the handicapped, etc. Interracial marriage used to be illegal in many U.S. states, and

If I misinterpreted his comments as you're suggesting, that obviously changes things. If AP is saying that the gay marriage issue isn't his fight, and he doesn't want to get involved one way or the other, I have no qualms with that. But that's not how I (or, it seems, most people) interpreted what he said.

He IS entitled to his opinions, but that doesn't automatically make them legitimate, or mean that he doesn't deserve to be held accountable for voicing them in a public forum. I don't see how his comments are any different from saying, "I have no problem with blacks and whites being together, but I'm against

+1. Loved this.

Rockets in the WCF next year?? Whether they are "pretty good" or "mediocre" will depend on what they give up for Josh Smith when they inevitably lose the Dwight Howard and Chris Paul sweepstakes. But assuming everyone re-ups with the same teams, and Westbrook/Kobe/Gallinari come back 80%+, I don't see them being

The media/messenger comparison isn't really fair or accurate when an issue is highly politicized. In NC, everything involving UNC is automatically politicized because the school is often viewed as a bastion of liberalism in a predominantly conservative area. UNC has caught a good deal of (deservedly) negative

Does this mean we can finally retire Master P's number?

When I was younger, I thought Rick Reilly's back page SI columns were great. Now, this may have been because I was a kid and had shitty taste, but I think he actually wrote some good stuff too. Then, somewhere along the way, he transformed into the obnoxious, moralizing, copypasta-regurgitating ESPN shill we all

For races in Florida, NASCAR receives a special waiver of the "gun free zone" restriction at tracks. A big part of NASCAR's race-day revenue comes from folks who travel up in big campers and purchase passes to stay in the infield during race weekend. The NASCAR crowd tends to skew pro-gun, so a lot of these folks

Okay, so I've heard people crack jokes here from time to time about the neandrathals on the ESPN comments section, but holy fucking shit the Ayanbadejo story on the front page. I'm sure half the commenters are trolls, but the other half.. I'm just kind of shell-shocked. I don't know, maybe I live in some college town

+1 for either highly sophisticated trolling or having WiFi in your meth lab. Either way, nicely done.

I agree with you but I think the ratings don't. ESPN is the Fox News of sports — the sensationalism of talking heads screaming at each other is how they make their nut. I think a smart move for one of the rival networks would be to work in a couple hours a day of legitimately edgy/funny/pop culture-y programming

"We do know that the age of consent in Pennsylvania is 16."

Clearly this guy is not from Mississippi.

Wonder how the Turkoglu news will impact the Magic's playoff push? Barely clinging to one of the two 0th seeds tonight.

Greggggggg?

Thanks for the insightful critique. Totally helped me to see your side.

Look, I love the trolling/legitimate criticism of ESPN as much as the next guy, but I'm just having a hard time getting riled up about the Bleacher Report crusade. This is not a site that calls itself the worldwide leader, or really makes any pretense of investigative journalism. So let's shit on them for...
