Times I’ve blindly rooted for the black person:
Aside from his athletic ability this kid hasn’t been given shit. He overcame a lot to get where he was and then couldn’t quite get over the hump.
Nitpick, but only 1 Last Chance U player was involved here. Patrick did not play at EMCC during the show.
Dude had one of the hardest stories on a show full of hard stories. Yeah, yeah, personal responsibility, but he went through:
You don’t think there were any sympathetic players in season 2? Wright was actually my favorite “character” (weird to call him that, especially now, but whatever). Sure, he sulked on the sideline when things didn’t go his way but he definitely cared and his opinions about almost everything he talked about in the…
Outstanding. I think it’s better than Hard Knocks. I also prefer college to pro football, but the guys in the show are just such compelling people. Isaiah was a particularly interesting and sympathetic person. He and his brothers had been through hell as children. The entire thing is very sad.
I enjoyed the first season until....
it draws you; as others have noted the first season is better. the second season you can see the wheels falling off (the football program and the show).
I saw the headline earlier on ESPN and the first thing I thought was “please don’t be Isaiah!” Not only do you need talent to make it at one of the big schools but you need some luck as well. Isaiah has had all of the former and none of the latter.
The first season of the show had a lot of players you could get behind and support as they tried to get a second chance to play D1. The second season had zero sympathetic players, including Wright. That being said, the second season delves more into how the coach is a scumbag which I think is important to portray.
I enjoy it, but it isn’t something that I burn through in a week straight. It is actually pretty depressing (see story above). The coach is a bit of an ass, but all in all the staff and administrators really try hard to help these kids out. But many of them can’t get out of their own way (see story above).
Yes. Especially the first season.
yes
There was a Facebook group dedicated to the idea that Grandpa Joe is the real villain of the film. I find Jack Albertson so gd charming in the film that it’s a tough pill to swallow.
In the British edition, yeah. In the American version (which was published first) it’s a dollar.
Ugh. Now that I think about it, grandpa joe is pretty clownish/minstrely
And frankly it’s unnerving to imagine how somebody who originally wrote the Oompa Loompas as he did would’ve written a black protagonist.
I was soooooo bummed when I realized it was the SEASON FINALE!
Can we start a campaign to make HBO extend Insecure to 10 episodes a season?? 8 is way too short!
