Take it from a NE Ohio refugee: just listen to "Allentown" on repeat play while drunk. It's the closest you'll ever really get.

I know you probably just made an innocent typo and didn't intend to coin "Bruché" as pseudo-French for "in the manner of a Bruce Campbell character." But you just did, and now I'm going to use it in conversation as often as possible.

I wonder if Popular Mechanics gets people bitching "if I hear the word camshaft one more time, I'm going to scream."

I wanted to like your comment but it was not very informative. :( If you're gonna take the time to gripe, could you at least take the time to give us a reason, just in case we have different tastes than you?!

If you haven't heard Kid Koala's take on that, treat yourself:

This seems to be becoming standard AV Club operating procedure: (1) pick a totally arbitrary, often totally imaginary/incorrect theme (2) ignore all considerations of humor, dialogue, visuals, voicework, etc. not directly relevant to that theme (3) dismiss the episode because it fails to live up to that theme. Forget this nonsense. Get a copy of Louis Giannetti's "Understanding Movies." He was my film prof at Case Western Reserve, and his textbook is the best approach to film criticism I've ever read. It just goes through all the major components of a film one at a time, from types of film stock to thematic tropes. I think

It does kinda undermine their right to bitch about "pop psychology", doesn't it.

Why do some people still seem to think there's some kind of objectively correct list out there for every one of these exercises? Don't they ever stop and wonder how weird it is that it just happens to precisely resemble their own likes and dislikes, to the point where other people need to "fix" theirs to match?

I'm sorry if you feel the AVClub demeaned your people. I for one have a lot of respect for hamsters.

Just the ones who resort to straw men the moment anybody else asks for a role that's not centered around their ethnicity.

We weren't taking a poll. Your opinion is not interesting, without any reasoning or detail to back it up.

Because film is about more than entertainment, and film criticism is about more than giving people an endless list of consumer recommendations? Because dissecting why and how a film fails is educational? Because it's called "My World of Flops" fer crissake?!

Well, he can't possibly be a real Objectivist: his comment history actually consists of topics besides Objectivism and self-aggrandization.

Yeah, frankly, I'd rather see a million anime cliches than one sulky holier-than-thou asshole. As a random bystander… I gotta say I like you a hell of a lot better than I like him.

Shame? Well, the request to be ashamed seems to be mostly coming from you, and so far you haven't given us any reason to respect you or take you seriously.

I think you fit into an Internet stereotype a little too well yourself to be busting out insults like that, mister. And this is someone with a space tiger icon telling you this.

Wow, not giving a fuck require a lot more effort and noise than I remembered.

Okay, good, because I was really wondering how to break it to you that I've been schtupping your mom since you were four.

So are:
