My DVI to HDMI adapter includes sound. I don't know all the details but I do remember there were two different adapters to choose from and my first choice was the wrong one w/o sound. The adapter is from ATI.

I've done that a few times and haven't had any problems. I use hot water from the tap, not necessarily boiling water. I also try to let the inside warm up a bit if I can since if it's still cold the water will freeze again into a thicker chunk of ice than I started with.
