Clarkson looks about a decade older than he actually is. Not a graceful 63 years. Also, a lot of his humor and opinions have not aged well on top of that.

For most manufacturers I agree. Tesla in general has always exuded a “we have nothing to learn from others” mentality.

Exactly.  The transition to electric powertrains seems to be a bit of a struggle for the legacy makers, but they make good overall packages.  As soon as they figure out (or have the willingness) to transition to EV (Toyota, Honda and Mazda - I’m looking at you) the overall packages will be more than competitive with

I find the fact that Tesla is buying Honda Civics to teardown for investigation hilarious. It’s almost like the decades (or centuries) of making production cars has actually given the legacy automakers valuable experience in how to produce vehicles. Who knew?

That’s because for multiple model years the only free color for a Model 3 or Model Y was black (other years have been white and grey for the free choice).  Tesla charges for other colors between $1000-2500 for the other colors outside of the “standard” configuration.

That is not a grid problem, that was the result of poor power plant design and risk management compounded by abhorrent decisions to not connect the electrical grid across the state lines outside of Texas in the event of complete grid failure or power demand shortfalls. Please educate yourself on subjects before making

Tell that to the “old people” in Chicago freezing in line to charge their EVs.

That is contrary to every other report I’ve ever heard. Are you talking about lift-off brake blending or application of the brake pedal? I am talking specifically brake pedal application. What I have heard from every other source is that when any amount of pressure is applied to the brake pedal there will always be

I think you underestimate Tesla’s desire to die on the hill of “one-pedal driving is better and the only way”. That, and I don’t know if the brake pedal in a Tesla is physically connected to the master cylinder, which would put it well beyond a software update.

I would love to know how many of these accidents are caused in part to Tesla’s insistence to only do one-pedal driving and to not have blended braking at all. I assume that a fair number of people aren’t accustomed to operating a vehicle in this way and/or make bad habits of not covering the brake which causes slower

True, and I had “an” instead of “a”. Stones will no longer be thrown in these houses of glass.

Even funnier with the last line:

Scion iQ

The 70 mph range test (120 kph) has been pretty standard for independent testing for many years. There are plenty of resources (insideevs.com for one) with comparable results. Tesla is one of the most prevalent manufacturers to underperform their EPA estimates.

Here’s the thing. I know you are saying that to emphasize the ease at which the recall can be fixed, but here’s the thing: I think the severity of the root of the recall is so much more extreme than most (not all) of the recalls in the past.

I think we need to start making a distinction between recalls where you have to bring a car in to be serviced and “recalls” that are merely OTA software updates.

100% agree. We had a 2013 Prius with 190k miles that needed a head gasket due to early signs of failure. We took it to the hybrid/EV specialist in our city and did a couple other “while we’re in there” items (water pump, spark plugs, chain guides and tensioners, timing chain) and came out the other side with a $4500

Why in the world am I in the greys?  I’ve been posting on this site for a decade.

with its new dry-coasting technology

It gets paired with a dual motor setup: an 83-kWh motor on the front and a 30-kWh motor in the rear.
