Wake-up buddy, and maybe read a single Windows 8 article fully for once. Metro is only the new "Start Menu". The rest of the OS works just like Windows 7.

The desktop with icons is the main, actual interface of win8. Metro only replaces the start menu. So now its basically windows 7 with apps and a start "screen" instead of a start "menu"

Exactly what I was thinking. My computer is only off when I'm sleeping, or if I know I'm going to be away from home for more than a day or so.

My answer is both. I have my organized library on my hard drive, but I also sync to Google Play to stream, only when I'm not at my own computer, though.

It is all fully backwards compatible, as other commenters have already said. Metro is more of a side function; it doesnt replace the overall structure that you see in windows 7 on the surface.
