I doubt that the traffic generated by Pokevision alone would have been a problem. The bigger issue is the traffic that is generated by all different scanners and bots combined. Pokevision didn’t stop because Niantic wanted Pokevision to be gone specifically, but because they made some changes to their API and servers…
