I thought Homeland ended like 5 years ago, and not just because S3 was already past its logical end point.
Yeah the Fireman is the hero; both him and the husband are over-the-top in different ways. The husband at least felt a bit more natural, but the Fireman felt like a totally different mindset was used to write his passages, like someone else wrote those sections in an effort to sabotage the book.
I agree on the father/son comparison. I generally like Hill, but there’s a definite off-brand Stephen King vibe (for obvious reasons). That said, I liked NOS4A2.
It’s only relevant when either handing out really negative reviews or old indieheads who haven’t gotten clued in that p4k no longer cares about Indie.
Just wait for the Limp Bizkit and Korn biopics. Seems to have worked wonders for Motley Crue’s legacy.
I feel like Nu Metal is always *just about* to be reevaluated, but what’s really keeping that from happening is just how shitty a lot of the themes are in the genre (even before getting to how shitty the actual music is).
It’s crass, but Brad dying likely cemented their legacy to some degree, especially as they were never able to properly follow-up on their break-out success. If they released another album or two, they probably would’ve been even bigger, but they also would’ve eventually been left behind like Limp Bizkit and 311 were…
Genysis (or whatever) sort of tried that and it was... interesting.
Saw it about a month ago at an advance screening. Mostly good, though I felt like it tried a bit too hard in spots, where a less overt this is funny! approach would’ve worked more naturally. A- is way too high, but somewhere around B sounds about right.
For years SNL has had a rep as the place for cutting polical satire.
I feel like the two movies miss out on a lot of the internal monologue going on in Louis, so it never quite captures that idea of good intentions and sound judgement and whatnot. It also doesn’t help that a demonic 2 year old was already going to be a tough visual sell.
Everyone on Kinja kept saying it was going to be horrible
I dunno, I feel like Wonder Woman was easily the best of the DCEU movies, mostly due to being genuinely likeable rather than Hot Topic grimdark, but mostly has a lot of the same flaws: some fairly shitty acting, CGI that looks like everyone’s ice skating, a really cliche plot, and some really questionable inclusions (I…
It’s funny because I remember some in the Simpsons community seemed to see Al Jean’s S13 and 14 works as a notable step up from the Scully years (S9 - 12). I didn’t really get it at the time either; yeah it’s was less hit or miss and the quality was a bit more even... but it was bland, and barring a few episodes the…
I go back and forth on the the show’s dedication to realism and the idea that a happy ending isn’t realistic: on one hand I more or less agree with what you’re saying as the show’s always had a “God, I wish the fuck I wasn’t a Gallagher” theme stated by multiple characters who always had an out available; but on the…
More or less the same here. It started out a bit rock, but I thought it worked well for the most part. Then again I’m under the impression that this episode may’ve been partially held over from the previous season; apparently 9 episodes were planned, but only 8 filmed due to Fuller exceeding the budget and this one…
The Village was probably better than the reputation it got, but all I remember is that by the time it came out, everyone had figured out Shyamalan’s shtick and it was pretty obvious what the twist was (at least broadly speaking) just from viewing the previews. My guess is the movie fares better than his other ones if…
re: TJ Miller: I thought it was interesting in the Deadpool Christmas (or whatever) that they didn’t edit him out. Seems like it would’ve been pretty easy to do considering his role is much smaller.
Definitely the best episode of the season. That said, I also felt like some of it may’ve been writing in way that seemed to hinge on Mulaney’s previous appearance; Bathroom Bodega felt like it was consciously trying to be the next Diner Lobster, which made its wackiness a bit more forced (though I still thought it was…
