You're still mistaken about what evolution and ecology have to say about reproduction and overpopulation, which is why I recommend taking some courses in introductory ecology, evolution, reproductive biology, and then taking some mid-level courses, at the very least, before you attempt to use science that you read on

I never said that abortion is a way to combat overpopulation. You said that reproduction benefits mother and species. Overpopulation is one of the ways I mentioned that show that this is not true. Not all births benefit mothers and not all births benefit the species. I also never said that fetuses aren't human. I

Oh, you're one of those who doesn't actually understand how the world works. Overpopulation is a phenomenon accepted by all major scientific organizations. Humans are growing so fast that other species are dying. We are growing in biomass because we are taking it from other plants and animals. We are destroying the

Who thinks women should exclusively be receptionists and nurses? I have never heard that argument anywhere. Most women think male nurses are awesome and pretty attractive, at least superficially. Same with male teachers.

The right to life doesn't supersede other rights. For instance, the stand your ground law states that your right to safety/privacy means that you can assault or kill someone who refuses to leave your property. You are allowed to kill someone if they threaten your right to life. You are not allowed to take someone

I think you're trying to make the point that dudes should be able to get abortions, too. Well, that doesn't actually work, because men don't get pregnant. As soon as men have body and health at stake in order to bring forth a child, men can get abortions. Until then, women get an extra chance to say no to having a

Oh, I meant to add congratulations on your baby! I'm glad she's healthy. Really. Not an internet person being fake-happy. I hope she's cute, too, because why else have a baby, right? :)

That's what I was saying. Asshole dude thinks that women should just have c-sections instead of late-term abortions and see what happens, but I doubt he's willing to pay for it with his tax dollars since he seems unwilling to pay any kind of child support, even for the kids he helped make.

Thanks? That's totally what I was arguing. You're the one who brought up tax-paying as if it was some holy grail of value. I don't care if a baby is going to pay taxes or not - it's irrelevant.

For me, pregnancy would definitely be a curse. It's not about motherhood - I have a genetic disorder (that is fairly common as genetic disorders go) and pregnancy would cause me immense pain, and the long-term damage pregnancy would do to my body would most likely make it difficult to live and function as I hope to.

1) Even given modern medicine, 15 women in 100,000 die in childbirth or from pregnancy related complications in the US. That's approximately 650 women a year that have died, not to mention women who have faced life-threatening complications or long-term injury. Healthcare has generally improved over time. 100 years

Babies in intensive care cost a shit ton of money - like, into the tens of millions for one baby. Who is going to cover that? Not the mother, because she chose to give the "baby" up. Are you willing to pay way, way more in taxes to cover this kind of medical care, which doesn't succeed very often and more likely than

Most of those cases (like 99%) are in order to save the life of the mother (i.e. pro-life) or because the baby has significant impairment that are inconsistent with life outside the womb. As in, will die anyway. As in, if carried to term, would present significant danger to the mother.

Historically speaking? Most likely. Childbirth is incredibly dangerous, and only recently have maternal survival rates been very promising, and even then plenty of women die. Abortions are generally death-free, except for that bundle of cells that is no more developed than that cyst in my ovary.

Exactly. Generally, 0 babies die during abortion. Only late-term, save-the-mother abortions may involve babies dying. Glad we're clear!

Do you think the next kid (if you have one) could have your name? My french teacher from middle school had identical twin sons and they gave one her name and the other the father's name. It was a little strange at school for them, but only really because they were in the same grade and school.

Why is wearing underpants at the pool necessarily a bad thing? At my pool, poorer families come in all the time with people wearing underwear. As long as it doesn't become see-through, what's the problem?

What I'm saying is that, while things were different in the past, the schooling/teaching system has been virtually unchanged. There are still multiple children with one teacher, who is usually female. There are still uncomfortable seats and desks. Kids are still expected to sit still and pay attention. No one argued

You're confusing gender and sex. As a fellow scientist, perhaps you'll listen to me. Genetically, her sex might be male, but socially and mentally, she is female. Who is to say which should matter more or which should determine the bathroom she uses? The law needs to make that determination. As someone who does not

Sorry it's been a while. I have not been on Jezebel due to work. A lot of the health problems may stem from the mental aspect of being celibate without wanting to be. There are some psychological factors (depression, anxiety, inability to concentrate) that can affect physical health. Stressed people tend to have
