Last I checked, butter isn't going extinct. Rhino's, elephants, sharks, fish, and other animals are all going extinct....Because of the Chinese.

No. Cattle are not beaten, skinned alive, or electrocuted in the United States. They are stunned to the head and then bleed out while unconscious.

What Jezebel left out in it's reporting is the why, as well as some other important facts.

All farm animals were bred from much wilder animals to be comfortable around humans, if not snuggly. And regardless of how connected they are to us humans, all those animals have an overwhelming fear of death and pain, just like us.

yes, I'm a vegetarian.

You're moving the goalposts. In order to satisfy your original requirement, they need not be Muslim. You said only westerners do this, no?

Oh come now, you know that the breeds of pigs kept as pets and the breeds of pigs raised to be bacon are not the same pigs. And why is that? Because of precisely what I'm talking about. Once you start breeding an animal to be a trusted companion, it becomes less morally defensible to eat it.

Name me a country that would never invite a dog into a bed to sleep. Shall we just save some time and list what'll happen? You'll name some country, I'll go to google images and find a dog in that country sleeping in someone's bed.

China has a long and distinguished history of breeding dogs as both pets and guardians. They have over 200 breeds never used for food.

Dont forget the millions of dogs that get euthanised in the US due to neglect and cruelty or the millions of so called dog lovers who just have to get a shiny new pedigree instead of taking in a dog in need of love. How is this even a smidgen worse than that?

The difference for me is that dogs are more than just animals to us. We let them sleep in our beds. We let them eat at our tables. We let them play with our babies and guard our children and homes. We trust them to help take care of our disabled. We play with them, and invite them to follow us in our daily lives.

Name one of these parts of the world where dogs have never been domesticated.

Go ahead and get started on the chickens and pigs, and 6000 years from now I'll post on Jezebel and make the argument for them.

Except for the kittens that were stuffed in a bag in the video

I didn't say dogs were smarter, did I? You CAN make a pet out of anything, even a lizard. But that doesn't make it the same situation as a dog, who has literally been created by humans to trust, love and obey us.

Yeah, I agree with you, but I don't know why you had to limit this to the US. I am not trying to be ethnocentric here. Most meat production is fucked up (yet China does seem to have less standards and policies in place than we do).

The argument you can make is that we've bred dogs to be our blindly-trusting companions for thousands of years, a symbiotic relationship of friendship, love and trust.

I know it's subjective and probably subject to being snarked at, but I would find watching this video as upsetting as if it were little kids getting roasted and nommed on. I can't. Ugh. GOD. Maybe I should just finally embrace veganism. But I still would need cheese... so ... yeah.

What the fuck.

I don't have a particular problem with eating dog. Pigs are also lovely, sweet, smart animals and we eat them aaaalllll the time. The living conditions and cruelty is the greater problem. I feel that we consistently hear reports of animal cruelty out of China and I don't know what in their culture allows for animal
