I’ve heard of Hi Mom’s global success and I just watched the trailer and it’s still confusing to me how it’s made nearly $1 billion dollars -- and without the US market at that.

Granted, I’m not Chinese and clearly outside the film’s target market (I’m Asian living in Mexico), I’m still trying to figure out how it’s

Even when the twink kitty-cat boy plays a mean Don’t Stop Believing on the harp?

It seems at some point someone should have at least said “Oh, you mean like a vampire?”  I mean our lead had horror movie posters on his wall... c’mon.

That one seems like it’s saved by having ghost T’Challa flat out tell him that he’s going to fail. Also, the last scene is Shuri and Pepper teaming up to take him down.

It was pretty obvious that Pepper and Shuri were going to take him down.

What is What If...? if not grief persevering?

As charming as Holland is, his version is a tad too nervous and I think Garfield’s version was the one I thought most closely resembled the Spiderman and the Peter Parker I knew from the comics and from the cartoon in terms of sense of humor/sarcasm/smart-aleckiness.

Yeah, they were pretty much the only thing that wasn’t a problem. I remember being fine with the first movie when it came out because I at least enjoyed their relationship and it spent a good amount of time on it.

The Yelena problem seems a lot like an Arrowverse / ”this conflict exists merely because our characters can’t be adults and have a simple conversation” thing.

Yea her not being snapped wouldn't make much sense, and her being snapped would have contributed to how despondent Nat was in Endgame

It depends a bit on if Yelena was dusted or not. If she was, it is easier to believe she could be convinced Clint was responsible for Natasha’s death upon returning. Thing is, it seems like she wasn’t. The impression I got from the post credit scene was that she had been working with Val for a decent amount of time.

Sort of - their knowledge would be secondhand, so Yelena could certainly not believe them, at least at first blush.  Hawkeye and the Red Skull were the only actual firsthand witnesses, and it seems pretty unlikely that she’ll be able to ask the latter.

It definitely had a lot of issues. I think Dowd is over-rewarding it for being zany and relatively fearless. And I have to admit, I was tempted to do the same. You seldom see a horror movie made by a real name, on a real budget, that takes swings like that; hell, you seldom see horror made by anybody at all take

Labor Day was never a good day for movies because there’s too much competition for viewers’ attention, especially being the last summer holiday before school starts. People are going to destinations and events, not films. And to be fair, the studios add some self-fulfilling prophecy to this notion, as they took the

Widow’s 67% drop-off was at the time inline with the other major releases of the year. F9 which was being hailed as a success also dropped off around 67%. There has been a lot of editorializing from critics and such that seems more like they are trying to drive clicks instead of actually looking at the market.

It looks like Shang-Chi is doing about as well as a film is going to do in theaters right now. The overall domestic box office for this weekend is going to be about $13M lower than the weekend Black Widow premiered. It will be the best weekend overall since Black Widow premiered, so from a studio perspective that is

There’s no point trying to grade success in pre-pandemic terms. This is the experiment that Chapek was referring to, though. Given the option between going to the theater or watching at home, people will make whatever choice suits them the best. But given only the option of going to the theater, how many of the people

It was a pretty cool fight sequence, too, but it’s telling that they were able to excise that sequence completely from the theatrical edit and it wasn’t missed at all.

It cracks me up how few shits the writers of that movie must have given. Need a way to make Sandman a compelling villain? What the hell, he was there when Uncle Ben died I guess and maybe he also was the triggerman. Harry’s gone too far, how do we bring him back? Maybe he has some sort of butler who has been around

I’m tired of laying this blame on the lower class. He was busy butling, he can’t be solving every mystery of his long-dead father. Dinner need to be on time and guests need to be introduced.
