I read the book to my daughters recently…and while i'd hesitate to call it "better" it certainly is a lot more…well, violent. there's a scene where they're getting mobbed by wolves and the tin man cuts the heads off of like 100 of them, nonchalantly.

I love Dr Who as much as the next guy…but it's kind of pushing it to call it Sci Fi at all. There is zero science involved in the show. It's pure fantasy that occasionally deals with time travel (though rarely in any real depth).

BSG had some really great action episodes, like Hand of God, Fragged, Resurrection Ship, Exodus, etc. Maybe people forget this since the final season(s) apparently got bogged down in the religious nonsense.
