To be fair, most of us don’t just sit around thinking about melting points. You do realize this is a very specific and small field of interest, right?

That’s true however when it does freeze in the South, you don’t see their bridges and/roads falling apart. 

I grew up in Louisiana and Texas and have never heard of this problem. Must be an Everywhere Else problem.

Meanwhile every Southern state has managed to build bridges without this issue.
