They absolutely deserve what they're getting. That doesn't mean I sympathize with Peter Thiel. But he was within his rights to capitalize on their relentless and foolish immaturity.
And BTW, if anyone thinks AVC hasn't tried to metamorphosize it into something a bit less bitchy than Gawker's current schizoid brand and tone, there's a lot more examples like that.
And unfortunately even the really talented ones are almost all, to a man/woman, defending Gawker online. Including, I think, the dude who admitted he made up a story about someone (James Franco?) at his editor's behest.
I think those side-sites occasionally have merit. But while I frequent them I frankly find that both Kotaku and io9 have largely gone to surface or superficial hot takes almost exclusively, or to long, woolly lifestyle/opinion/personal journey pieces or grudgefucking with Redditors that just do not interest me in the…
That'll be Jordan Sargent or JK Trotter (I honestly forget there are two of them and they're not the same person - wait, was there a third who outed Geithner? Shit)

I can dislike Peter Thiel and his politics and condemn Gawker and its ninth grade locker-bully concept of journalism and progressive activism.
We can see it. That doesn't mean Gawker has been a force for good or truth. Its perception of itself is markedly different from what it actually is. There's no one I can sympathize with in this equation because I know where Gawker has been and what it has become.
World's smallest violin, etc etc.
She was on BTVS and HIMYM forever, almost back to back. She's loaded and has nothing to worry about.
And now, to complete my Sunday AM chillout: Charles Kuralt and Sunday Morning.
The F13 remake is pretty solid - it has a great opening sequence which is actually a mini-movie, and it functions basically as a really good sequel. not a remake at all.
Most of the films do, overall quality aside.
