I want to drink in her shed!

It can be the overproofed season.

I loved Linda so much, she is so sunny and opimistic. I want to be friends with her and sit in her kitchen gossiping and eating delicious treats. When she said that she’d had a special needs daughter that died at 18 that made a lot of sense. People who have suffered enormous tragedy usually have a remarkable

I moderated one of the (if not the) largest drama/wank-documenting communities on LiveJournal at that period for a time, and to this day most of my Facebook friends are old LJ friends. I am desperate to know the name of your LJ. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

Sorry I am not into Snape. Nice hair though. Lovely accent, minus the sneer.

I’ve always loved Beauty and the Beast, I found it empowering.  But the Bluebeard story has always genuinely frightened me.

I feel so dumb for not realizing this now! Literal bodies hanging in closets!

I was totally waiting for a Bartok shout out in the article.

I came to hype this game too! I had the privilege of getting to know Jabari Weathers a little bit through their work on 7th Sea, and then followed the trail to Bluebeard’s Bride and its tarot cards. Haven’t had an opportunity to play it yet but it looks EXCELLENT.

Hitchcock was pretty clever when it came to getting around the code. Like how he got around the rules about kissing with Notorious.

Hve you seen Catherine Breillard’s version of Bluebeard? I watched it as a double feature with Demy’s Donkey Skin.

I noticed! They really telegraphed it with Oscar Isaac’s shaved head + big hipster beard... It still surprises me that some viewers interpreted him as the protagonist and not the villain.

You just blew my mind!

Just some context for the changes in Hitchcock’s Rebecca, the Hays decency code presented him from filming the book’s version. Movies were not allowed to let murders get away with their crimes. In fact, in many episodes of Alfred Hitchcock presents he skirts this rule by only having the characters face reprocussions

I really appreciate this article! I am incredibly fascinated by the Bluebeard story and its history. I just wanted to put a plug in for Jacques Demy’s Donkey Skin (starring Catherine Deneuv!) and Charlie Chaplin’s woefully underappreciated Monsieur Verdoux. Also, Anna Biller’s next film is. . . Bluebeard! I am so

I missed that production, but I saw/heard Jessye Norman sing Bluebeard at the Met years ago. Her performance was amazing.

You will have to explain that statement a little more, I don’t see the parallels though I only know the high points of Ex Machina, I didn’t see the movie.

My friend wrote a game based on Bluebeard’s Bride and they are winning so many great awards this year!

The Met’s production a few years ago of the Bluebeard opera was chilling and visually arresting, especially with the native Hungarian bass doing the opening narration. It is the definition of a cautionary tale, but as art, oh, I loved it.

This is an excellent article, and an excellent time to share They Might Be Giants’ Mrs Bluebeard:
