I flick my regular beams on and off twice, rapidly (truckers use this idea to communicate to each other that they are clear to change lanes). Makes more sense than brights to me...

You can still play ranked with whoever you want. It just matches the team to the highest ranked player on your team. It fixes a huge problem.
