There were really flashes of something there, but the tattoos and meth aesthetic Leto went with was just awful. It completely castrated the character, he ended up as “I’m Mr. Serious Business I’m Sooo Crazy” but should have just been a menacing jester who’s laugh sends shivers down your spine.

You’re not alone, actually. I think he could have done a lot with the role, as his depiction felt like a “grittier” (which, I believe, is a term the DCCU has effectively copyrighted) take on Hamill’s animated version.
