I don’t know how you stop yourself. I have to work on this.

I envy you! I do this for short stints of the year, but even a week is enough to horrify me.

You do not need to be drunk all day to be considered an alcoholic, far from it. It’s a disorder that ranges from mild to severe, and it can show up differently in individuals. Diagnostically, alcohol abuse is now in the same category with alcoholism, and it’s certainly much better to see it as a serious problem before

Definitely wait until the person is drunk 24/7. Don’t advise seeking help before that. ;)

Yeah. And I’m not allowed to say anything. Want to switch jobs with me?

I live in the sticks, so while I meet a lot of fantastic teachers when subbing (and I fall to worship at their feet), I also meet the this kind regularly.

A lot of teachers call shame discipline. I see it every single day. It’s the normal MO of many teachers. Makes me want to pull my hair out.

Oh it does not stop at racism. This week I was helping out a girl with visual impairment, thus I sat through a HS psychology class. One student said there have been so many murders lately that it feels like murder is becoming normal. “I can tell you why that is!”the teacher said. “These people used to live in insane

Well, I already have no plans to go back to that school... :)

Hell yeah!

In my experience, these teachers don’t take kindly to any suggestions whatsoever. I wish they did. I was thinking about correcting the copy and sending it to her anonymously. Probably a bad idea, but tempting. ;)

I’m thinking about it!

I mean, I totally admired this teacher for her ability to teach Shakespeare. She’s great at that. I can forgive copy errors — except that these teachers set themselves up as ultimate authorities on the subject. They overrule MLA style and make weird rules that are not MLA when they say to do the paper in MLA. They

Not Twitter related. Just a vent, sorry. What would you do if you were a substitute aide in a high school classroom (helping a lovely young woman with visual impairment) and the psychology teacher had clearly not read anything about psychology in decades and was ignorant besides? They were talking about normal versus

How about, “She’s going swimming.” Was that so hard?

I’m steaming bad Christmas movies and eating Christmas cookies I got for $1 at the store.

That sounds like a thyroid thing. My cat has it. It’s actually not bad news compared to other stuff. My cat just needs a pill twice a day now. He gained enough weight back and his coat is shiny and healthy again. I hope the vet can help!

I hope they warned everybody, cuz as an asthmatic I’d have to flee.

Mine’s not funny or awesome, nonetheless: Spanking or threats thereof have been ruining my Thanksgivings. Eff my cousin and her husband and their ignorant, misinformed parenting. I just want a holiday with no threats of hitting, though of course I wish they’d just do some learning and stop being abusive tyrants. Down

I think you are doing all you can. It’s a gift you are giving her — empathy and friendship, which are wonderful things. Be kind to yourself too. :)
