Yeah, it’s not that they are naively buying into the patriarchy and fully believe that their product is what helps them succeed in the patriarchal society. It’s that they’re fully aware of what they are doing, are active participants in the patriarchy, and don’t even believe in the harmful product they are selling.

Halloween is way too low. If you’re a kid, there’s free candy. If you’re an adult, there’s booze and candy. You get a chance to dress up like a weirdo and it's normal.

This is exactly my experience. I was in undergrad a decade ago (gah!) and NF was the brand. I then moved to Wisconsin for work and then grad school where it was clear CG was the brand.

True! That’s kind of my point. In the early stages of dating someone, they generally only see the “dating” version of you, who is trying to impress and put on a good show. You generally don’t share your “normal” self with them and you especially don’t usually show you the “embarrassing” or “troubled” versions of you.
