I don’t know what exactly happened that night when Meredith was killed. The case was so fucked up we’ll hardly ever know.

not to be the devil’s advocate here, but the fact that the country’s judiciary is corrupted does not equate with her innocence automatically.
I can confirm there are thousands and thousands of ghosts on London underground. I see them every morning at 7.30 on my way to work and again at 6pm.
I may get burned for this but I have to share.
I was a kid growing up in Slovakia at the time, and in no way would I ever think this was appropriate. But than again, I think even though this is way out of line, it shows that peculiar cultural feature of American culture whereby consumerism blends in a strange fashion with patriotism.
I think it’s actually the opposite. Even if you get some people who will inevitably visit these sites because of some sensationalism, I would guess that most people wherever they are from actually come to pay respects, remember a terrible tragedy and a point in history which really affects us all to this day.
it is a tourist attraction. That doesn’t make it a Disneyland, though some people don’t understand the difference unfortunately. I know a family who went to Oswiecim and brought back from there a bunch of happy family photos posing next to the skull sign, etc.
you don’t forget something like that. You make these omissions on purpose in an attempt to offer alternative version of history. I have no idea why they left out France, but if the museum was opened during the Cold War, then the reason why they left Stalin out would be quite obvious...
and also they offer some complimentary food in remembrance which is not quite the same as turning the date into a business opportunity.
this needs that song from Little Miss Sunshine where the creepy show’s presenter sings some cheesy song about America.
but you’re mixing two things here. The guy should never have been prosecuted for sexual battery in the first place. As for offenders who actually commit sexual battery, they belong on the list of registered sex offenders.
but someone would need to accuse them first. If we are talking about children or vulnerable women, what is the likelihood of that happening?
In a culture which has extreme issues with even acknowledging that rape is an issue, what is the likelihood that a rapist gets caught twice?
OMG, reading your words, my blood pressure went quite a bit up. Maybe it’s because I never really admitted even to my friends, or even to myself that this was something not entirely consensual... It’s a great relief being able to share this in a safe space.
it is a sound advice, but requires you to suppress your survival instinct because irrational though it is, I think most humans would trade another five minutes of life for a second location. I am not sure if I’d be able to follow that advice, not that I would ever want to find out.
God, this conversation is truly scary. To even imagine yourself in a situation like that, whilst probably knowing it’s not going to end well either way. So terrible.
thanks for the tip, I will check the book out - it looks really interesting.
mob justice is never a solution, because it is always a consequence. In this case, of a failing judicial system.
this though should be a warning sign to any other judge who would feel slap on the wrist is the appropriate sentence for a convicted rapist.
well maybe, judge Persky should have thought of this situation potentially coming up, since he must be well-acquainted with gun laws in his own country.
