I’m going to wait for the Forensic Files episode before I make up my mind on this. In fact, I may ask them to hurry up and do an episode on it just so I can rest easy in my mind. Usually I can find a side I like, but this one has me flummoxed.

This site takes some sort of glee in willfully misrepresenting this case.

For those curious about the kayak, it’s the blue one in the following picture. The plug is the tiny black spot at the left end (aft) just beyond the lanyard. Not clear from this picture is that the cockpit is not sealed from the rest of the hull. Forward of the seat opening is open to the entire hull, including the

But it can’t be the hinge of the prosecution’s case. It’s transparently false. The presence of a plug has zero bearing on these kayaks floating. Anyone who thinks otherwise has never been in, around, or even looked at one of these kayaks. Removing the plug will no more sink the kayak than singing “yes we have no

Because it was the hinge of the prosecution’s case in addition to her [possible/likely] coerced confession after many hours of plying her with coffee and asking her the same question over and over again. Her confession appears like it was said out of frustration just so she could get the eff out of there.

Those boats are designed so that removing the plug isn’t enough to make them sink anyway.

PLEASE! Somebody answer this. This case makes me crazy. The plug simply cannot have anything to do with this case. Why does every article mention it?

She’s innocent. That’s the reason you’re confused. No life jacket, alcohol, choppy dangerous water, equipment not suited for the task... it was an accident, that’s all.

So, my husband and I kayak, and I really do think she was steamrolled. Honestly, neither of them had any business being out in a couple of playboats on the Hudson at night after having downed multiple beers. He should have been wearing a wetsuit and a PFD, and he was wearing neither. The kayaks they had were for

Honestly, I’m still confused about how he actually ended up dying... It seems like he fell out of his kayak and drowned because no life jacket and alcohol, rather than anything else, and police allege she nudged the kayak away from him so he sank while she watched...?! Is that right?!

Love Jez- but can you take more than 5 minutes to full understand the story you’re writing about before making a clickbait/false headline?

I feel like you guys must be using the impossibility “deflated his kayak” as some kind of inside joke or troll job or something, because the continuing to do so unintentionally would be... a bad look.

I’m convinced that the prosecution used her emotional state and the fact that English isn’t her first language to railroad the woman.

This is like the fifth article on this site about this case that has said that this woman was accused of “deflating” a kayak that cannot possibly be deflated. If you guys don’t care about facts, why should we.

SIGH. Every time this story is updated:

It didn’t help that I’m in a bad mood but I’m over criticism of women in connection to the movement. It exists in the first place because of male abuses of power so can we just not have a go at a woman who isn’t wearing the right shade of black* and remember that Weinstein and Spacey and the rest of them are rapists

I do think she should’ve worn black because I don’t think that opposing sexual harassment is a political statement, but this is a no-win situation for her. Getting political is a big no-no for royals, so she would’ve been hammered if she’d worn black, but she’s also getting hammered for not wearing black. I think she

“Can we stop vilifying women who aren’t doing Times Up well enough?”

Meh. I doubt anyone really expected her to wear black since they’re not allowed to take a political position. But given the criticism of her and her husband for skipping BAFTA functions for several years, even though he’s the BAFTA president, she really couldn’t skip it (again).

My guess is that she was hamstrung by protocol, but the dark color and black ribbon show that her philosophy is with the movement.
