Another Volvo here chiming in, I’ve owned 4 Volvos (almost done with my 245) and also paid cash. $500 on the nose, because all Volvos are only worth $500.

How many of these concerned people as pedestrians are also the assholes not paying attention when they’re driving?

An EV with ~300 miles of range stuck in traffic now has ~500 miles of range because the EPA rating was assuming 65mph @ ~4mi/kw, and when you’re crawling under 45mph you’re getting like 7mi/kw.

The irony is that the EV being used to evac likely has more charge (if you’re evac’ing from home), than an ICE vehicle has fuel. My cars are constantly hovering around 1/4 tank. EVs are generally plugged in at home. They’ll be just fine.

To disable all communication between my car and the outside world. I don’t want it to get firmware updates out of the blue. I don’t want people to be able to steal my car with their phone. I don’t want the manufacturer deciding what features I can and can’t have with the flick of a switch.

If they are basing this on a 2009 law which was only passed in 2011, then doesn’t applying it to earlier models make it “ex-post facto”?
