Amen. Fanboyism can be a bit much. All too often we project too much into these things because we feel we're invested. I'm resisting the urge to do the same with The Dark Tower. I'll admit I'm in the camp of disappointment that they castes Idris Elba as Roland, but I still can't wait to see it on the big screen, and I

I think there’s a difference between “positive feedback from critics and screenings” and “standing ovations from Warner Bros execs” though.

Most people who have seen STiD do like it, hence the very positive Rotten Tomatoes score. There is however a very vocal minority who are competing to win the Bitterest Person on the Internet Award and will jump into any ST thread on io9 to spew hate. Peace be unto them.

Counterpoint — the biggest problem with ITD was the writing, and Simon Pegg has a pretty great record as a (co) writer.

Still don’t quite understand why everyone hated “Darkness” so much. I mean yeah the “he’s not Khan, yes he’s Khan” thing was a little annoying I guess, but it didn’t effect my view of the movie. I thought overall it was enjoyable. But it receives soon much hate, especially here.

It was nice to see that Takei elaborated on his thoughts about Sulu. Not approval exactly, and I know his nuance will be lost on people who don’t actually care what he thinks, but nice none the less.

My Queen slays again! I love Rihanna and you can tell she is really into Star Trek

Holy shit, that woman has pipes.

To be fair, sledge hammers are kind of a generic tool.

Can’t be worse than the opening to Enterprise.

It’s a beautiful song and a gorgeous video. It got me all excited for Star Trek! But it definitely has a James Bond vibe to it... which is a good thing ‘cause I likes me some Bond themes.

That’s a really impressive video! I love the idea of Rihanna as this celestial superwoman, I love the look of the video and the effects too. Awesome!

I actually think Bond themes for Trek could work. It could help Trek hold on to its retro future sensibilities. Trek is supposed to be about humans trying to understand themselves and be better than they are. There’s a lot of soulful music that shares that theme.

To be fair, Star Trek makes it very clear that humans will outgrow war, poverty, hunger, greed....but not the desire to drive unnecessary vehicles at unsafe velocities.

It was an excellent trailer. I was surprised that a Rihanna song would work so well with Star Trek but it really did.

This kicks all sorts of ass. I dig it. :-)

The trailer with this song made me interested in seeing this movie for the first time. They really need to start giving credit to people who cut trailers, because the music cues in it were seriously on point. They married the images to them perfectly.

But that is how kids look! Your partners grew up in a society that fetishizes young girls bodies and praises grown women to the degree they are able to replicate them. Your partners aren’t child molesters and there’s nothing morally wrong for any given person to go hairless if that's their preference, but it’s a

Well, as someone who stopped shaving, I’m pretty sick of everyone telling me I’m unhygenic/gross/ugly/smelly and lazy because I have hair. I’m also tired of seeing dudes (who probably wouldn’t go down anyway) claim any hair on a woman is the reason they won’t eat her out.
