I passed by that hill a couple of different times earlier this year on the way to the coast. I knew to look for it after reading an article a few years back about its true location. Also it’s labeled as a “photo site” in Google Maps (search “Microsoft Windows XP Background”). So it’s easy to find.

True, but that was an oddball iPhone, and kind of a stopgap for the lower end line, if I remember correctly.

Good decision not to go with saltwater, unless you are REALLY committed. I had one back in the day. It was beautiful, and mostly successful. But I have a background in water chemistry and really like to geek out on stuff like that. Most folks are not that committed. I certainly put a ton of time into taking care of

I took a similar journey through the world of digital photography as you. So much advancement during that period in both the technology and accessibility to people of all walks of life. You’d be hard pressed to find someone today who doesn’t have a high quality point and shoot in their pocket at every moment (ie.

It’s not abysmal. It’s just not quite as good as the larger phones. Also we are all surrounded these days with a dozen convenient options at any time to add some juice to the battery. Portable power packs of all sizes, the lighting cables in the car, a wireless charger at the desk, etc.

Data caps were originally justified as being just to manage the “top 2% of data users” - those hosting torrent servers etc. But based on your and my experiences, I’d say 1.2 TB is now the “top 25% of users.” If not yet, it will be soon.

Unfortunately I don’t think any of us can fix someone this deep in an alternate reality rabbit hole. These folks have to hit some kind of bottom before (at least some of them) will wake up and realize what it cost them. Losing most of their friends might help them get to that bottom sooner. I think you did the

This “Mini sales are lackluster” business is getting over-dramatized in the news. First, no one knows what Apple’s sales expectations were. Second, “lackluster sales” for Apple still means many millions of units.

You can go to a Target or Best Buy and hold all three sizes. Just use hand sanitizer afterwards.

I actually get the need for some kind of cap to prevent the egregious users from hogging up all the bandwidth, which I know costs them money and impacts other users.

I agree with that. The square design makes way more sense than round for a smartwatch (and it was wise for Apple to optimize around usability). But there is no good reason for it to dominate mechanical watches. Round looks better and makes more sense functionally for those.

When the Apple Watch was released in 2015, the Swiss watch industry scoffed (particularly at the square design). Here we are 6 years later with a luxury Swiss watch designed to look exactly like an Apple Watch. That says something.

I’m happy to see people like this go down in flames for what they tried to do to my country. But I’m equally frightened to see him double-down, because that demonstrates just how powerful the Cult of Trump is and how deeply entrenched a significant portion of our population are. Lindell has a lot to lose and his

I imagine every one of your readers has a similar pile in their house. I certainly do. Some of it I will never get rid of (like my still-working iPods of various generations, a still functional 3DO game console with a wide selection of games, a Palm Pilot, etc.) but the rest of it really needs to go. One of my

This. Musk, Zuck, Jobs, ... they are (were) all dicks. It’s pretty much a minimum qualification for running a big tech company.

I’ve been doing head tracking like this for weeks (iPhone XS Max using the front facing laser) and it works great once you learn how to tweak it and initially center your look direction with the keyboard and mouse. It’s highly accurate and best of all free. Coming from X-Plane VR, this at least gives me the ability to

Ahhh... the glory days of the internet and digital music. The music was free but illegal (but no one cared). You could find a treasure trove of stuff but it could take an hour to download an album over dog-slow dialup and when it was done you’d play the songs just to find out they were poor quality rips or perhaps not

No one is going to install this shit in their house. No one I know wants to watch a new release movie THAT bad.

Love it. Though I’m losing hope that the minds of any remaining Trump supporters can be changed. It’s not just a party preference anymore. Supporting Trumpism and “owning the libs” is a way of life for many. They are completely 100% bought-in, as are everyone in their families and circles of friends. It has blinded

Agreed. The phrase “stay out of politics” doesn’t even apply anymore. It’s no longer about “politics.” It’s about the survival of America as we know it.
