As someone who struggled with alcohol abuse I read this book when it first came out. It’s really great. It’s true that there is something freeing about being a complete and total mess (as a woman), when you are told you are supposed to be nice, pretty, and demure. I think she really captured that in her story.

I don’t have experience with painkiller addiction, but I did become dependant on benzodiazapines (drugs like xanax, klonpin, valium, etc) after being legitimately prescribed them for anxiety.
