Yeah, id like to think she just spoke carelessly & didn’t mean to imply “white women” when she said that but I think really she is just oblivious to her own white privilege. C’mon, Julie! 😞

You know, I don’t care for Fox News or Megyn Kelly one bit, but I sure do like Fox for standing behind her & her for asking questions about his sexist statements. Makes me pleasantly surprised to think there is an inkling of hope for conservative feminism!
I know! If she had just reiterated her 2yo statements, that it’s a white boys club, and supported (or empathized with) black actors & actresses who feel equally shut out, that would’ve been great.
Aha! Thank you. I hope you sent that over to her. Its so clear now......
I’ve really liked JD (her films & what I’ve trad in interviews) for years, so honestly I was kindof shocked & really disappointed that she (& Charlotte Rampling!) went on such a clueless rant then followed it up with bullshit half-apologies.
I keep thinking back to that as well! Do you suppose she still wants single payer? I haven't heard a word of it from her campaign, which makes me think she's ready to cut that loose now due to the unlikelihood of it coming about after the WW3 getting Obamacare in place.
I’ve been dying to read this since I heard of it. Thanks so much for the excerpts! Sounds like MLP is a really introspective, worthwhile writer. I’ve been a fan of her forever because she is so complicated & honest in her acting & she seems so direct, so down to earth in interviews.
And (spoiler alert 😉) we can actually expect to see more Leia in the next two! She rocks, and who gives a shit if some ageist, sexist trolls think she’s not “aged well” - CF is awesome PERIOD.
Did you see what Mark Hamill said on Twitter? Basically: stfu, but his “sis” is a badass & can stand up for herself. ❤️ Carrie Fisher may have been through a lot, but she's awesome. I love how she responded to that bullshit
I click on Jezebel less and less these days as the stories I loved & writers I loved go away. I’ll miss your stories a lot, but it may be from a distance, alas. With kitchenette dead and all these fucking ads (!!!!!) I may not be reading much anymore to even know when the next of you guys jumps ship/gets cut loose.
Yeah, for me it is definitely a bigger deal that he cares enough (both about our equality in the marriage & about my feelings in the naming game) than what we go by!
I know several women who wanted to keep their name, but took their husbands’ because of family/cultural pressures. They tend to regret it but don’t want to go back now because it’ll make even more of a stink (plus, it costs 300$ here!). It’s not a “mommy war” thing for them, at least, (thank goodness!) just a bit of a…
Interesting... Have you guys every talked about it? I’m curious as to why the trend would be reversing course, although now that you mention it, most of the younger women I know have also opted to change their names
Aw, that is sweet!
That one has to just go, IMO. And I expect it will in our lifetimes... Just think, did you ever look at your patents’ mail? My mom was mrs dad dad. She even had her checks printed like that! (And now she’s mom moms-last-name dads-last-name.
Do you guys talk about it, or is it not really an issue? I’m just curious... Most of the women in my circle that keep their name (totally or just professionally) get a fair bit of backlash... I wonder if that is making younger women not even try?
I’m sorry that happened! I had a few similar experiences early in my marriage, and I just had to take a breath & realize they are just doing the “normal thing” for THEM.... not trying to belittle my existence as a human 😉
Yeah, my husband & I always meant to do that, but we never did get around to it (300$ bucks for him, free for me but still a lot of paperwork & a drive to the next town over since we are rural)....
Hmmmm, interesting! I wonder why that is?
Aha! Thanks :)
