Actually, it demonstrates how self-interested and self-serving she is, which echoes what was written in the Phasma book. So no, it underscores her primary character trait and motivation.

I thought it actually gave Phasma some character, which is better than anything we’ve seen of her so far. I mean, she’s really been useless for all the hype they’ve given her.
Either they should have kept the scene in entirely or cut it entirely. The ship has just blown up and both Phasma and Finn stick around to dual it out due to some work place grudge that isn’t motivated by any broader character growth. Phasma dislikes Finn because he is a traitor and Finn dislikes Phasma because he has…
Well, it gave her something more to do. What a waste of an interesting actress, interesting costume, and maybe, possibly, interesting character. Twice.
Indeed, it’s that combination—a genocidal killer at one moment and a caring friend the next—that truly encapsulates what Hannah Arendt described as “the banality of evil.”
Saw the movie last night and just have to say- the Starbase Yorktown visuals were absolutely incredible. Really, that was the first time years, if not decades, that Trek took my breath away so thoroughly. I felt like a kid again, watching TNG for the first time.
There were many similar sized plot holes. It was still better than Into Darkness.
“Sir, it looks like he is trying to access the HVAC system for his Bio Weapon.”
I still want to know where Kirk and Checkov got the new blue leather away team jackets. I mean, they can be stored in the escape pod (how many outfits does it carry?), but they seemed to get out in them. Does it beam them on them in flight?!
“I will bring the Federation to it's knees! Once I gain access to their HVAC systems!"
They were all killed off when the crew of the USS Franklin played Whitesnake over the radio.
Spoilers......
Yes: especially since in order for the space mustard gas to be distributed effectively, it had to be thrown into the ventilation system of the starbase. Good luck finding the ventilation system of an entire planet!
Ok, so spoiler here, so be warned:
Did it bug anybody else that Elba’s character had a massive swarm of nigh-unstoppable drone ships that could tear a starship (and likely a starbase) to shreds, and yet for some reason he needed space mustard gas to complete his plan of taking his war to the Federation?
On every possible level, NO. Rarely has a less interesting, more ridiculous idea been suggested around here. Let that sink in for a moment: this is actually more ridiculous than normal for this place.
I'll be torrenting it just to delete it.
My album will never never never be on Apple. And it will never be for sale... You can only get it on Tidal.
The high explosives used in nukes are incredibly stable and would not detonate if they’re struck by a bullet. Instead the bullet would likely disrupt the delicate balance required to create the initial nuclear reaction and turn your thermonuclear bomb into a dirty nuclear bomb. If it could be detonated at all.
I agree with you on the casting of Idris Elba as Heimdall and Danny Rand. I had a “wait and see” attitude about it, but when I finally watched Thor, Elba’s casting didn’t bother me at all.
There are other people who say that since he’s using Asian-flavored martial arts, he should be an Asian actor.
