We’re around the same age, then. For me—and i def should’ve made this clearer—the big difference is that internet didn’t feel like “real life” at the time. Yeah, social media was starting and the internet was becoming more fundamental but it still felt like a separate thing from my day-to-day life.

I know a comment like this pops up on every Insta/social media story but, damn, I am happy that I grew up before smartphones and social media.

This is good media criticism. I can’t believe that the AP bungled this so badly—they are far from perfect, i know—but they usually aren’t this boneheaded. I know expanding imperfect media outlets isn’t really popular around here but this likely could’ve been avoided if all the outlets that relied on the AP had enough…

This kinda nice—simple and low stakes—but nice. I’m glad that AB is using all of the resources they have at their disposal to make this and release it for free. Obviously its for good publicity but, meh. 

I’m in a similar boat: late 20s, parents in their late 60s, working class parents, me in a shitload of student debt. I have no idea what happens if either (both?) get sick and need care beyond what their insurance will cover.

i have to hope that the questions that lead to the “more attractive” answer involved noting the strength, bravery, etc. of the people sharing their stories and that those are considered attractive qualities.

I’ve worked in some pretty rural communities and in my (admittedly anecdotal) experience, the gov’t services are so piss poor that people don’t want to pay to maintain them let alone expand them (and yup, its definitely a self-defeating argument.)

I think that’s what I would do, too. I’m no huge fan of the city’s rats but I jus think don’t think I could just put it on the sidewalk, i’d be too worried about what some passing asshole would do.
