Everyone looks up to see who is causing them harm. It’s understandable: The immediate fear and pain is blinding. It’s painful and difficult to look down and understand that we may perpetuate the same pain and oppression we feel.

this gif is perfect (for this article at the moment but for many, many others)
Why stop at celebration? I will not tolerate acceptance nor accept celebration. I demand reverence. Join me and we shall be goddesses/gods.
So hopefully they’ll be able to track down the employee who did this and fire them. Also, it would be cool if Vistaprint just settled the lawsuit in a way that is amicable to the couple to, you know, show that they really are contrite that one of their employees (and at this point, i’d believe that it was an…
this is good kinja.
The healthy at any size crowd is suspiciously silent in this comment section.
New Jersey isn’t sending their finest. They’re sending spoiled sorority members, racists...and some, I assume, are good people.
Laughing at the poor is an American pastime that cuts deeper than ideological consistency. See also: Our love of conspicuous consumption and ‘fight’ against inequality.
I’m gonna agree with Shabs42: it’s all in the execution. When waited tables I never minded if customers made stacks of the same plates (we pretty much just had 4 plate sizes) because, sure, that made it easier. Want to pile up your napkins on one plate? Great.
I thought they did an awesome job, too. I love that they included so many different possible options. I was really impressed that they seemed committed to including a plurality of voices. I’m sure there are things they left out but its obvious that inclusivity was important.
Doing a content analysis for this would be really interesting piece similar (but more narrowly focused) to the New Bechdel test article published on fivethirtyeight. These are the kinds of projects I wish more journalists were able to take on—instead of just repeating an actresses supposition—and use to make…
Ryan got exactly what he deserved. Arby’s doesn’t love you, it is only there to enjoy your pain.
This will surely please everyone...
I wonder what Grace’s experience with Aziz means or says about consent going forward. Grace, as a woman, is socialized to please and to be accommodating. Aziz is given power by society because he is a man but also, in large part, because he’s a funny celebrity.
i’ve got nothing constructive to add. I’m just jealous of your car. that’s pretty dope.
I’m a huge fan of Pilsners (...I like to be able to drink many delicious beers and still speak; that gets tougher with the IPAs and stouts that grab my attention.)
That’s totally fair. That isn’t the interpretation I’d go with but you’re being more generous than I am.
i think some commenters (some genuine and some dickish) are just a littled miffed that Jez and Splinter have positioned themselves as taking the tough stands and denouncing the bad behavior of men and now there’s silence. Maybe there’s a more substantive piece coming about reckoning with the misdeeds of ‘allies,’ but…
...is there an article about Ansari coming?
I’m not totally comfortable handwaving these allegations away (see: the song he named after the woman he allegedly beat. Also, her initial willingness to come forward followed by allegations of witness intimidation) but, at the same time, I’m not going to get mad if you want to be cautious.
