Fair enough. Award shows are always a clusterfuck for that reason, I suppose. Judging what's "best" is always so fraught with subjectivity that it's a wonder we even have them.

Out of curiosity, why is House of Cards a boo for you?

I am glad that Wes Anderaon won something. This almost makes up for Moonrise Kingdom getting snubbed. ALMOST.

I mean, a single still shot tells you absolutely nothing conclusive about what the people in a situation are feeling or thinking. You could take a lot of pictures of me throughout the day that, taken out of context, would lead you to make wrong assumptions. This is a kerfuffle about a grand total of nothing. But, such

Really. Bullfighting is so damn cruel. Like, I guess it's a yay that there's a woman in a male-dominated field, but I'd probably just prefer if her profession didn't exist.

I mean, it's not like total war tactics do anything other than entrench hatred and resentment towards the west and further feed into the spread of Islamic extremism. That's totaly not the case.

True. It's a great car. I wouldn't doubt that. But the two extra points in the value section? You don't just get to add extra special brownie points because reasons. That's not how scales work.

My favorites are "Sleigh Ride" and "Winter Wonderland," which never fail to make me smile. My least favorite is probably "Baby It's Cold Outside" or "Santa Baby." One is super rapey, and the other is about fucking Santa. I am apalled that they continue to get any airtime at all.

It's very good to have a day to just do nothing, especially if (if you're anything like me) you feel slightly guilty when you're not doing anything the rest of the year. It's a great relief to give yourself permission to just be a human being for a bit, and ignore all other responsibilities.

While not having living grandparents definitely has some drawbacks, one of them is definitely not having no obligations on Christmas day. My family usually just gets up early, opens gifts, eats some French toast, and doesn't leave the house all day. It's a good life. But anyway. How are you all spending your day

Judge John Hodgman is always good, as is In Our Time with Melvin Bragg. Oh No Ross and Carrie is good, too.

Yeah. The pilot is a great, weird piece of radio, and I really do love it. But the rest of it never really grabbed me, save a few others. I've listened to every episode, and I'm still subscribed (mostly because I need a fair amount of podcasts to listen to), but it's never a must-listen for me.

Which, to be fair, is sorta a smart move for the paper. Most of their readership isn't composed of gearheads, so why write to that audience? They already have their subscription to Road & Track. Instead, it's more sensible to look at cars from the perspective of 90% or buyers: will this get me from point A to point B

NAILED IT

But that assertion, while correct, depends on someone noticing what is to be inferred. From my personal anecdata (which, as we all know, has a margin of error of +/-100%), I don't know if it's all that obvious on first reading, especially without previously being told that it was there. Granted, I read Deathy Hallows

I'm not really trying to badmouth her. It's just that I waded through a bunch of comments praising her for doing this. I don't really think it's a bad thing that she did. It's just kinda like... so? The books still don't really have much representation on the LGBTQIA front, and this tweet doesn't magically (ha) make

But, and though I hate to be a dictionary hugger, if I have to infer it it is by definition circumstantial. But semantics are semantics, and arguments over them tend to be the death of conversation. In any event. Yes, a fair amount of people inferred that it was a relationship. But I would dare say that the number

So much truth is contained in this statement.

I was really prepared to be super super frustrated at the lack of closure at the end of this week's episode, but damn if that last five seconds didn't pull me back around. Like jesus. Major-league goosebumps.

The thing is, though, is that this doesn't actualy make up for the fact that she elected to not put any LGBTQIA individuals explicitly in the text. (And don't give me anything about Dumbledore, because that was circumstantial at best.) There isn't any explicit LGBTQIA representation in Harry Potter (and only one
