I echo this. I live in a Phoenix, AZ suburb, and renting a 2-bd 1-bth apartment runs about the same as my mortgage for a 3-bd 2-bth house with a pool (~$1k/mo). So, cost of living is the same, but there are so many more financial benefits (especially when it comes to taxes) to home ownership.
