You can’t even get the four cylinder or the diesel with a stick, they aren’t going to give you the V8 with one.

Agreed.  Which is why a V8 is genius!

1. The height would just require a “power bulge” hood. The actually stuffening changes would be fairly minor as there’s only so much futzing you can do with the rest of the driveline without essentially re-engineering the whole vehicle. I can’t imagine the block sizes between the two are that different, so what

Calm down there, Mr. Regular

1. it was either a BS excuse at the time, or 2 they finally did the engineering to make it work

It’s a combination of:

1-Hellcat vs Apache (the lack of supercharger saves height so they can likely mount it differently than a Hellcat motor would be)

2-the Bronco’s existence

3- Needing something to add extra demand for the JL, because I think it’s a hair short of what their expected sales were.

It’s safe to say it was

I my area, Wrangler drivers are among the fastest drivers on the road. I’ve never understood why considering the lackluster engine and gigantic mud tires. With this extra power, I doubt these owners will have the same sense of responsibility.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t they say they would not do exactly this (stuff a V8 in a Wrangler) ages ago because it was a hilariously bad idea with this platform?

GONNA FUCK NATURE WITH MY BIG V8 DICK

People aren’t fazed by $70k Tahoes and $70k pick up trucks. I think this will sell just fine.

I like it, though with a non V8 Jeep sitting the 40k+ range, I don’t want to think about this one’s MSRP.

I feel kink shamed that they’re not showing me a 2-door with a manual.

In all fairness, not everyone hates the new look.

I didn’t think Id ever say this, but. BMW is being awful insulting to the Austin Allegro design. What’s next BMW, a Square-Round steering wheel?

Okay Bimmer.

Not to pile on, but piling on, this was my comment to David’s original post on this monstrosity:

Not a regular of this page, but before reading the byline or checking your profile pic, and based solely on the description of yourself, my brain went, ‘Oh! - that’s the guy with the old Jeep Golden Eagle!’

It REALLY makes you wonder if this design was focus grouped at all.  Based on the comments here, I’d say the public reaction is 9/10 hideous, 1/10 eh, not so bad, 0/10 I like it.  And that might be generous.

Now I don’t work in marketing, but ragging on the people most likely to be able to afford your product seems counter-intuitive.

So much this.
