I was referring more to OxyContin which the pharmaceutical company claimed wasn’t as addictive. It was then overprescribed and people got hooked. But when they can no longer afford it, onto heroin. Fentanyl is now mixed in with heroin so no one knows what they’re getting.

King Co. has a pretty progressive criminal justice system. I have never been around heroin except in jail which is ironic, yes? But I think it is a valuable program.

My opinion, of course, is people are released back to the exact environment where they developed their drug habits. I didn’t realize the effect of “triggers” until I happened to drive the same route as I used to when I was in active addiction. The desire was instant. I believe they do. The administration is as simple as spraying Afrin in your nose. And teaching the people who are in jail for mostly drug-related crimes is a life-saving solution.

It was brilliant. People often relapse immediately after leaving jail. I heard stories about people’s lives being saved because they happened to have a dose of Naloxone rolling around in the backseat.

Two plus years! The best thing that happened to me was my husband divorcing me for relapsing and my brother, whom I adore, cutting me out of his life. I decided I’d lost enough. (And I’m dating my ex-husband!)

Very true. And the shame is addicts are put in jail and then let out on the street without any treatment. I was a prescription drug addict so I would get arrested for forging prescriptions but because I would appear as a stable, educated white woman, I’d get out again, quickly. I am so sorry. I never moved on to heroin so wasn’t exposed to any overdoses. It’s just all kinds of fucked up that the pharmaceutical industry is profiting from something they helped create.

I was in Portland and that was one of my fav things. So many families. And the pre-show show included a wonderful group of teens simply embracing their selfhood.

At the Portland March, one of the speakers was a teen who survived sex trafficking. She was 16. It was wonderful.

I seriously love this. This is the best.
