Do any midnight runs? By far my favorite part!
Do any midnight runs? By far my favorite part!
Lots of driving heading out to nearly the end of Long Island and back. I think the most interesting part of that was all of the cool cars I found out on Shelter Island. I didn’t take any useful photos of other cars but I do have a picture of my Miata on a boat.
YESSS Atomic cars. Make Nuclear great again!
This is not something I ever thought I would want. Now this is something that I want. Thank you Jalopnik for fueling my insanity.
Oh yeah she was nearly sick on the PCH without spirited driving in a normal car. Highway 33 out of Ojai with the Camaro even made me feel sick afterwards lol. But so worth it! I'd plan to hit the canyons while she is at work, then it will be totally uncrowded too.
well everything is stock engine-wise. I don’t plan on modifying any of that until I get out there and pass inspection at least once. Then I will screw around with it. I have seen how draconian they are about things. I don’t know how the roadkill guys ever legally register anything lol.
Im still contemplating getting a rental from Turo on my next trip in October (6th through 11th). I will definitely have Friday the 7th and Monday the 10th to roam around (spending the weekend with my girlfriend). Her Honda civic is good for just cruising but I try to get a decent car that I don’t care about to thrash…
Nice, seems like an enjoyable kinja to read through. I plan on moving out to LA next year at some point and bring my Miata with me. So it is good to see all things motorsport out there. I spend a ton of time out there already but it's generally in a rental. I wish rentals could come with better tires lol.
I think I have hit every canyon road in the Santa Monica Mountains EXCEPT for tuna canyon so far. I have to check that out next time I am in LA! Mulholland highway in a giant ass Camaro was fun as hell though. That thing was a pig but it was fun to haul around those turns. Some of the smaller canyons are much more fun…
Where do you think this is, Europe? That was actually really nice in Italy, any time I was entering a city I could park in the outskirts for free or rather cheap for the day and then either walk or talk local transit around easily.
Haha I didn’t even notice that since I had my polarized glasses on. I guess the sun was brighter than I thought!
It floats somewhere between 3500 and 4000 when you get right above 80. I don’t tend to get above 74 or so usually but yeah it definitely gets up there in the rev range. Its why I wont get more than like 31-32 mpg. But I don’t really mind, it means I don’t usually have to downshift for passing on the highway.
JFK and LaGuardia are absolutely terrible, always agreed. But Newark is really not that bad. The only thing I don’t get is that they don’t really have TSA precheck set up. I know that has gotten me through LAX before in 10 minutes vs the 45 or more for the normal line. Newark always just has one line. But otherwise,…
When I am pushing 4000 rpms on the highway, I am sometimes wishing I had a 7th gear in my Miata. It would be a true overdrive. But it would only really be an issue if I had an aftermarket exhaust I imagine.
My 6 speed Miata has the reverse all the way to the right of 6th gear. At first I thought it would be dangerous and I would accidentally shift 5th to reverse but that would near impossible just due to the force required to get it in reverse. Even when I am not moving in neutral, its difficult enough to throw it in…
Yes, definitely do September. My car might actually be fixed by then!
What you are saying makes sense, for everything other than the part about sticking to slower roads and then moving on to highways later after getting some driving experience. I think the opposite is true really. A highway is considerably easier to drive on than crazy 5 way intersections, left turns across multiple…
Oh yeah that one for sure has to be the worst part. Even normal roundabouts in the right direction (CCW) were confusing as hell to me. There are about 3 or 4 total roundabouts I can think of in the whole state of NJ. When I landed in Norway, I hit 5 or 6 in the first couple kilometers of driving! Once I got used to…
