Gray as the Day is Long

I’m turning 50 next week, and my motto for the rest of my life is “Fuck that noise.” From now on, I call the shots. I’m not intimidated anymore, and I’m also mad as hell and not going to do anything I don’t want to do. Work late? Only if I want to. Put up with a shitty boss? Hell no. I’m not worried that quitting

I am a tired 48 as of last month... not because of age... but because for about two years I have watched my life blow up in my face and now slowly come back together completely different like really really different. It is all the awkwardness of puberty with none of the raging energy and a stack of bills and therapists

55 here. Just laid off for the fifth time in nearly as many years.

Seven decades in.....and I still don’t think I’ve reached middle age. No menstruation (to me, that’s the best perk), no kids wanting 3 meals every day (they’re the only things in this world that I truly love, but man they’re exhausting to raise), no job I have to report to, naps whenever I feel like it, no jerks

Y’all crack me up. 35? The thirties are the shit! The forties are the shit! Fifties? Sure, the hangovers get worse and hair goes grey, but shit - Any day you wake up on the sunny side of the topsoil is pretty good!

Or maybe she was happier working, and the kids were happy in childcare, and it worked for them. That’s as valid a reason as anything else.

Hopefully so. Or I’ll fuckin explode.

We can’t possibly know if he would die on the sun or not.  Let’s just see.

They have until January, so they don’t have to move particularly quickly. This is why voting in 2014 and 2016 was so important, of course. It’s too bad that progressives didn’t think women’s rights, voting rights, LGBT rights, and economic protections were worth the effort.

I can assure you that the one thing that the Democrats will do, even if it kills them in the process, is hold that seat open for the entirety of that two fucking years and constantly refer to it as the ‘McConnell rule.’  That will happen. I would bet any amount of money on it.

She very nicely bridges that perceived weakness in Sanders’s politics, who was strong on progressive economic ideas but often failed to connect with minority voters because of a concern about playing so-called identity politics that comes when you directly appeal to the concerns of the people who make up a strong

The far left has been in misogynist attack mode against Harris for months. She terrifies them. I’m happy Cortez won, as she represents her district far more than Crowley but she would be dead in the water in a statewide election. She is also going to have an uphill battle when she arrives in Washington and realizes

In addition, I would think that he would happily share his decade+ experience, helping her navigate the shark infested waters that is government.

Crowley conceded almost immediately, saying, “I wish nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious in the November elections.”

And that’s why she should not be labeled as a Bernie Sanders candidate. She’s not a Sanders acolyte, she’s better than him.

This is the kind of young woman girls need to look up to. And Auntie Maxine, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren (and all the other badass progressive women -  forgive me, I’m excited and tired)in congress waiting for her. So many women are rising up and speaking up in spite of all the bullshit out here and all the

One of the things I love about Ocasio-Cortez is her ability to advocate for a genuinely intersectional form of DemSoc. Sanders’ real problem in ‘16 was that he couldn’t situate his policy ideas in an intersectional framework, whereas she can really easily and clearly talk about how class is racialized.

If the only time we’re going to be able to stop Republicans from completely trashing our political system is when Democrats control the White House and both houses of Congress, we’re fucked. Complete federal control in perpetuity is not a strategy for winning.

I’m not entirely convinced that Splinter writers aren’t secret conservative operatives trying to suppress the Democratic vote. If they’re not, I’m not entirely convinced that secret conservative operators could do a better job of it.

Yes, vote for Democrats. Is that question a fucking joke?  How can you look at today’s horrible Supreme Court decisions and think anything other than voting AGAINST the Republican in any election by voting FOR the Democrats is acceptable?  This Supreme Court will set back progress for DECADES, all because Hillary
