Let’s pretend this had happened in the Senate as a filibuster by Sanders. Imagine how he would have been lauded as a “hero.”

Are you referring to 2010 and 2014 midterms, when Democrats didn’t bother to show up after a Democratic majority and executive branch passed unprecedented health care-related legislation?
“I don’t think any meaningful solution will come from either party that has deeply entrenched interests in a corporate democracy.”
Serious question: what is your solution to changing the minds of those stuck in fundamentalist belief systems in a country this size and polarized?
A filibuster-proof majority in the legislative, and like-minded stakeholders in the judicial and executive branches are the only way to make rapid and sweeping change. This country is way too large and polarized to hope that a few overtly progressive candidates at a federal level will suddenly undo the mindset of…
Under our current representative democracy, we would accomplish even less with more than 2 major parties at a federal level. If we had a parliamentary system it would be a different story.
If you get the lesser of the two evils in, then eventually you get the lesser of two neutrals then the lesser of two pretty-goods and on. Sadly only the Americans who vote for the more evil of two evils seem to have the patience to follow through over time.
You are so sensible it sickens me. :)
I noticed little activity in my FB feed yesterday as this was occurring along with some predictable ageist and sexist comments, but in an alternate universe a certain Senator performed the same actions as a filibuster (sans 4-inch heels) and everyone wept with admiration.
It doesn’t work that way because Republicans are sociopaths by design and they don’t care if their constituents suffer in the process.

That makes sense given their steady diet of nothingburgers.
Eh, I’m a 40+ occasional Tinder user and I have no problem with this.
We have two choices: either split into two (or more) countries and separately pursue more like-minded agendas, or hope that the our side can convince voters (who are somehow still uncommitted enough to vacillate between two blatantly opposite outlooks) to consistently vote for Democrats at all levels during every…
I thought Bernie was a poor choice for president, but would have held my nose and voted for him in the general if he had been the nominee...because I know it’s worth no risk or “statement” to place a Republican in office.
And hell, not only would we stop talking about repealing Obamacare, we’d be discussing the addition of the public option instead.
All you have to do is either a) run for office yourself and convince everyone to vote for you, or b) convince everyone to vote for your choice of candidate in the primaries, then the general, in every state for every office. Problem solved.
The President promised the American taxpayers they wouldn’t be paying one cent for a border wall. Unfortunately, the President has decided he would rather see the government shut down entirely than deliver on that promise.
