Given those progressives you mention, demographics with inherent opposition to any government involvement, the usual racism and sexism, and a final helping of cognitive dissonance, I’ve learned to manage my expectations for this country.

Hm, I wonder if it would also be effective to do a landline version of a DOS. :) Just keep jamming his line so no one can ever get through.
Great points. I’m trying to remember what I meant, and I think it was just in the literal “most of us aren’t actors” sense.
I’d love early voting or the capability to so by mail. i’m guessing it would require some major infrastructure changes, which will of course invoke the foreboding Conservative chorus “buuut whoooo wiiiil paaaaay forrrr iiiiit?”
Thanks for the first hand perspective. I figured this was one of “those districts.”
I saw she lost by 9% which seems like a lot but then again you never know outside the 5 boroughs because they often act like our own little Texas. She definitely took a risk by relocating from Brooklyn.
I’m not sure which Letterman catchphrase is more applicable here:
And yes, a few of them were too young to vote in 2014, but most of them were not.
Exactly! I remember thinking she had a very long shot but was both surprised and encouraged by her total (35%) which was not at all bad for a first-time unknown. She lost her House race, but only by 9% (and not within the 5 boroughs). She still has a long career ahead of her.
I agree. So many acquaintances mocked me in the last year because I kept lecturing about the importance of Midterms. I was met with either “we don’t participate in a ‘corrupt’ system” or “it’s unrealistic to expect people to care about Midterms.”
The ignorant and stupid people will never learn, they will just blame whoever or whatever group Fox News or Rush Limbaugh or Alex Jones tells them to blame. They will never learn. We all need to be realistic, we have seen evidence of this over the last 16 years.
She was the most qualified candidate. I’ve learned over many years that some populations are hopeless as long as they’re influenced by the Puritan work ethic and fear of government. Now they will have the chance to stew in their own foul juices.
Yeah, I mean for fuck’s sake I’ve had more than my fill of (mostly millennial-authored) “thinkpieces” from busy fingers, most of whom are not even involved in their local community politics. These are people with only academic and little practical experience lecturing those entrenched in the system what they “ought”…
Let me know when people are willing to show up to off-year elections as I do.
I did vote for Teachout at the primary level, and I remember my voting precinct was almost empty. All those who claimed to give a shit when Bernie emerged on the scene were nowhere to be found when we needed them a few years ago.
Wow, you sure showed us! What are your other useless functions?
At one point I had a list of horrible songs I recognized by melody, and they all seemed to have different styles. Only years later did I discover that BNL was responsible for ALL of them.
During the late ‘90s, I had a coworker who blasted cubicle rock and he played so many different types of terrible songs. In later years I’d hear some of them in drugstores and wince. Only much later did I learn that BNL was responsible for every song I hated.
I support her action. I too had to kick someone in the nuts once and it was completely necessary.
How will your nuts ever be desensitized if no one kicks them?
