My e-trong has this. The high set screens turn off and nonessentital functions go away. The lower screen for the HVAC pulls duty to pull over things like the radio. The gauge cluster turns into a muted and minimalist cluster that you can set a tone color to.
If it is an OLED screen (it should be) it can reduce to zero and only is illuminated on the pixels that are showing. black is off for them. There is no back-light to throw a gray buzz at your face.
The thing on the console is the UI knob so you aren’t 100% reliant on the touch screen. It probably has direct commands for the HVAC and other such things like the radio.
