My 2012 Ford Escape (same with the Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute) has a cubby in center console that pulls out for EVEN MORE storage underneath. Not only that, it has a dovetail cutout that fits either behind the armrest or in the passenger footwell allowing you to fill it with anything you want.
