I don’t know if they distribute a client. If they do that’s illegal. Reverse engineering a protocol and programming a server isn’t however. I’m sure there were things done that make this legally not ok for them (testing a client for example breaks ToS).

I have yet to find a device that lets me play any and all online streaming - including the crap ton of hulu content that is ‘unavailable’ on a roku or similar device but allowed on a PC - *and* plays my plex library where I have digitized all my DVD content, and lets me order pizza in a few seconds.
My media PC is hooked up to my 50 inch TV and surround sound. Considering the video quality from a browser is *always* better than any other method I’ve ever used - yes, I run it from a browser.
