Note to self: Stay the hell away from McDonalds this Sunday. There’s nothing like a free offer to make people lose their shit. I expect to see drive-thru lines snaking out into the street.

I understand people love baskets, and sometimes I do too, but it also means I have to carry heavy shit because my husband doesn’t believe in carts lol. “We only need four things!” No, man, we’re going to end up getting 12 and it will be a like 30 pound basket I have to hold in one hand for an hour lol. Get a damn cart.

I live a block away from a Lowe’s and Target and two blocks from a Walmart. The number of carts and baskets I see around my neighborhood, either abandoned or in use, could be used to stock an entire store.

I saw a man at a self-checkout scan his items, load up his backpack, and just saunter out the door. I was so stunned I couldn’t say anything. WHO DOES THIS.

Keeping the dog company. /s

Apparently Tide detergent is a major high-theft item, to be resold in shady ways.

1. It’s also harder to maneuver in a car than it is on foot. Who cares? If you literally can’t get saround the supermarket, don’t go there. But we all know that’s not the case here.

Today at a self-checkout, I scanned my lonely jar of coffee and almost paid $55.  The person before me had scanned $50 worth of food, bagged it and walked without paying, so the $50 worth of charges were still in the machine.

The receipt checker does not have the right to paw through your (purchased) stuff, but that’s more about the fact nobody posts signs saying “The guy at the door is going to look through your cart.” I say this as someone who walks by them every time saying “No thanks” and thoroughly confusing whoever happens to be with

If they don't provide baskets, just use a cart. What's hard about this?

So you bought nothing but felt a need to take the cart out of the store. Sounds to me like you just wanted to use the stores property for a stroller for your child.

Retail employee here: if we’re doing our job, there’s no need to do that to carts or do away with baskets. Several people nailed it in the comments about much loss occurring internally(damages, employee theft, etc). Another is employees not doing their jobs, we’re supposed to engage with customers, if we act like we

It is illegal for _police_ to search those bags. There is implicit consent when entering a private business to submit to reasonable security procedures.

Sorta doubt some guy in a store was gonna search your reusables, that’s illegal basically anywhere in the US.  They can ask, but that’s your private property so they can either call the cops or piss off.  Just don’t try that anywhere you joined some kind of membership like Costco.  But at Wal-Mart?  Fuck that receipt

Don’t blame the stores - blame the assholes that created the need for them to take these actions in the first place.

I’d always assumed locking carts was basically an FU to the homeless. Never considered someone trying to abscond with a loaded cart of groceries into a parking lot covered by CCTV.

The biggest thefts these days isn’t even steak and beer anymore. It’s bars of soap, laundry detergent, and other misc items you find in convenience stores.

I’m super annoyed that some places around me have no hand baskets. I usually buy only a few things for 2 people. I don’t need a whole cart most times.

Your supposed to leave the baby in the hot car with the windows rolled up like a GOOD parent /s

Also, if they aren’t whole, they can’t be labelled as San Marzanos. Diced/Puree/Chopped/Sauce/Passatta can not legally be called San Marzano under the DOP rules. They also can’t be in 14 oz cans. Has to be 28 oz. I think they can use bigger cans (like for restaurants) but I’m not sure of that. I also believe they have
