All I can say is thank CHRIST they penalized that one guy for jumping up and down after his team scored a touchdown. We need to keep that sort of behavior in check.

*cough* Thank you to Bill Simmons *cough* Thank you to Grantland *cough*

One wonders if he would have done the same if it meant destroying the adorable child-sized throwback that Drake LaRoche was stipulated to receive

Goddamn that was a great play

“Certainly,” continued Welker, “he’s nothing like me. I mean, come on, he catches passes in the Super Bowl for Christsakes!”

“Those sell-by dates are mostly bullshit.”

Welker’s point is moot anyways since he went to play with off brand Tom Brady in Peyton Manning.

Plenty of other people have already pointed this out, but of all the things you can fairly criticize Simmons for, including the clumsy (and potentially racially-inflected) paternalism baked into his ongoing critique of the generation that came into the league in the 90s, you can’t just take pull quotes from this

Exactly what I was thinking. 9 years ago Simmons says Love > Mayo and also notes that it’s difficult to say without sounding like an ass because the reasons why Love > Mayo align with unfortunate racial stereotypes. Other than mixing in LeBron’s name, what was he wrong about?

Also, Simmons has spent more time over the

This would’ve been a better article if he’d just focused on the fact that Simmons stupidly lumped LeBron in with jackholes like Arenas and (prior to his late career reinvention) Carter, rather than going full Gawker with “RAY CIS MMM” and completely missing the fact Simmons was right.

Personally, I find this shocking. To read through this article has really opened my eyes, to something I was admittedly (and shamefully) blind to before now. I would like to thank the author for bringing this to my attention, and would encourage everyone else to take some time and reflect on how you, personally, feel

So with 9 years of hindsight, the obvious conclusion to draw is...Simmons was 100% correct here?

1) Bobbio is right. Any time you step into the gym, you’re immediately sized up and people make judgments about your ability based on how you look. Doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, Asian, whatever. If you say otherwise, then you go ahead and pass over the 6-foot-5 black guy for the dumpy-looking 5-foot-8 white

Whoa whoa whoa, I’m all for jingoism, but that’s a Fox Sports+Skip Bayless level lede right there. There’s ten other dudes on the pitch, yeah? Presumably paid a lot of money? Just as vested as Messi in whether the team wins or loses?

This Deadspin fascination with hot take posts and comments on Bill Simmons reminds me of Jezebel’s Lena Dunham infatuation.

One too many before the show.

Of what, I can’t tell. But his clear lack of annunciation wants to me to think there was open bar beforehand.

Anyone else getting the ad in this page?

It’s just a reminder that American-sports-style playoffs are great for excitement and bad for truly determining the best team in a given season.
