I’ve got twin air horns in my MR2 - they are effective at alerting oblivious drivers to my presence when they decide they want to occupy the bit of road where my car is situated.

Nobody talks shit about the Cactus!

Ignis was the first thing that came to mind. For those of you who don’t know what it looks like:

No idea about whether Lotus Engineering will be solely in-house now.

Unfortunately there’s no real option at present for flat-out spartan performance with EVs, due to the issues energy density with batteries. There are some options for batteries with very high power density that would allow performance and light weight, but range would be abysmal.

I think Lotus is luxe performance (their Porsche). Polestar their Audi, Volvo their VW. I wonder whether they’ll sell the domestic ones in Europe/US.

That’s a good point - the design experience from Volvo is pretty handy. They did also get design experience from Lotus as well as the brand - Lotus is well-known for their engineering consulting to other car manufacturers, and now Geely have that in-house.

It makes sense because nobody wants Chinese brands outside (or even arguably inside) China. Chinese domestic brands have a (not entirely undeserved) reputation for being cheap and crappy internationally, and foreign brands are aspirational in China. With Volvo and Lotus they’re short-cutting the process and buying

Yes, it would have been entirely possible. I’m which case I’m happy that this has seen a partial turnaround of the shit luck he’s had so far in the championship.

Would that not be an even greater injustice than the injustice Kelli001 perceives in this result?

That would be a genuinely psychopathic move in those conditions. And wouldn't take away from the fact that he would have likely won on merit.

Had they raced, Verstappen would have been likely to win and therefore to close up more than he did with this result. Like him or not, he's very, very good in the rain (Hockenheim 2019, Interlagos 2016 spring to mind), and he would have had the huge advantage of actually being able to see where he was going.

Though he may have got a number of sex partners on the basis of explaining how he was the baby on the shirt they were rocking too...

The front marker light does strobe, albeit more quickly than standard, suggesting that at least one other indicator bulb is non-functional - it’s actually a lot easier to see at normal speed in the video.

Incorrect. He was indicating.

I think Henry Golding could have done a nice interpretation of Spike.

I’m not knocking Haas for their listed parts approach - it’s a sensible way of minimising entry costs as a new team.

They haven't been helped by a small budget, average drivers at best, a terrible Ferrari engine last season and zero investment in their car for the current season.

Haas didn’t buy a team wholesale, I agree. But I wouldn’t say that Haas didn’t buy team personnel - the team is made up of people that have all been in F1 for a long time (Steiner, Taylor and Agathangelou all worked at Jaguar together, for example). Which isn’t surprising - F1 is pretty much a closed shop in that way.

Isn’t that what Haas tried to do? Get everything they can from Ferrari, and everything else from Dallara? It doesn't seem to have worked terribly well...
